Jax, this one is for you, and Dottyspots, and all you knitters out there who keep asking me where to get yarn! Today I saw someone with a lovely new scarf- nice wool! I have a friend who scours charity shops for woolly things, and does this with them. I'll have to consider it at some point, when I've used up the stuff I've got kicking round the house.
